Chenango Forks rushed for 401 yards and put 34
points on the scoreboard by halftime en route to a 48-7 Section
Four Football Conference Division V win at Unatego on Friday.
Ryan Lusht ran for a game-high 109 yards and
quarterback Casey LaNave contributed 104 rushing yards for the
defending Section Four Class C champions.
"They are like they always are," first-year
Unatego coach Frank Microni said of the Blue Devils. "They're
very well-coached and they have 40 guys. They're like a machine
right now. ... I'm proud of our guys. We didn't give up."
The Spartans (0-4, 0-1) averted the shutout when Tanner Carley
scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter. Will May's extra
point capped the scoring.
Senior Dustin VanWhy made his first start at
quarterback for Unatego and completed 10 of 23 passes for 142
yards. Alex Walley caught two passes for a game-high 70 yards.
"I thought our passing game was pretty good,"
Microni said. "We had a pretty good plan for our passing attack.
(VanWhy) probably could have had a lot more. We under threw some
balls and we dropped some balls, but I was very proud of him and
the whole team."
